This is a quick and easy one for ya: getting daily sun!

Did you know that a healthy lifestyle includes getting up to 20 minutes of unprotected sunshine per day? With all the indoor activities we do in our culture, most people probably don’t even see the sun on a given day. There is a huge problem with vitamin D deficiencies in the U.S. and in other countries as well.

If you do a little bit of research, you will find a huge list a benefits in giving your body the adequate dose that can easily be produced by your skin if you give it the chance. By taking the time to take a short break and get outside for a bit, you can give many types of cancers, heart disease, osteoporosis, and other nasty things a big punch in the face. You would also be surprised to see the impact it can have on troublesome things like depression and insomnia.

If you are fair skinned (like our super white fam), less sun will do the trick. If you are darker skinned or in your later years, you may need to be out closer to the 20 minutes. Make sure you expose a good amount of your skin, but cover up those things that kids don’t need to gawk at. Don’t be out longer without skin protection and do more harm than good! For those of you up north, sun may be harder to come by this time of year or a snow drift may be blocking your door (come to Florida), so you may need to take a supplement to get your vitamin D. Sun is free (for now), so get it whenever you can.

So here’s the challenge: grab a book and a lawn chair, strap on your walking shoes, or do whatever sounds fun and relaxing when you are soaking up some sun. Comment below and let us know your favorite sun-soaking activity!

Be good y’all,
