This Thanksgiving, we would like to take a moment to highlight extremely important folks who often don’t get recognized. When taking on the Gerson Therapy, it is a huge commitment and sacrifice both for the one who has fallen ill and those who have chosen to play an active role in their healing. When it comes to a holiday that’s centered around family and lots of standard American food, they deserve special thanks.
When you first find out about the Gerson Therapy and properly educate yourself, it brings quite a bit of hope to many people who are struggling to find answers on how to heal. After reading the books, attending a workshop, or maybe even going straight to the clinic, there’s a moment when reality gives you a huge slap in the face: this is going to be an overwhelming amount of work to have the best chance of healing. I remember sitting in the workshop trying to figure out how in the world we could give Sy the attention he needed with all the major life events we had going on (here’s a post during that time). We had to make some big choices and decide what needed to be given up in order for his healing.
For those who decide to FULLY commit themselves, this is not the kind of work that can be done by someone who is trying to recover. When you really sit and look over the full protocol and calculate the time to do it, it’s easy to see where 8-10 hours can easily be sucked away. It is required to have full-time DEDICATED help where care of the patient must be their primary focus. Remember, the patient is healing every day of the week, so it’s not like you get weekends off. This is an every day, every weekend, every holiday kind of job with no sick days and no paycheck every two weeks.
For those of you who are enjoying your great Thanksgiving holiday today in traditional fashion, please take note of whoever is preparing all of the food for today. Calculate the time preparing (counting grocery runs), the number man hours it takes to pull it off, and the amount of togetherness that is often enjoyed with family and friends. We know from past years of preparing the Thanksgiving meal that we end the day exhausted, our feet hurt, and we would rather not cook again for another month. With a Gerson person, the protocol schedule starts all over again the very next day. As you reflect on your thankfulness today, just keep those folks in mind who are on the Gerson Therapy and their caretakers because they don’t get a food “cheat” day. Most importantly, keep in mind that many of these people, although healing, have a whole new perspective on health when the threat of losing it has been presented.
And finally, for those of you who are in the trenches caring for your loved ones on the Gerson Therapy… Know that there are a multitude of people across the world who stand with you and support you in your efforts. We know first hand the sacrifices (financially, socially, vocationally, etc.) that you have made to give your loved ones a chance to live. We applaud you that when those around you think you’re absolutely nuts that you continue to push forward. In the fast-paced, success and money driven world we live in, we appreciate that you have realized that all of that stuff pales in comparison to the one you love. Please know that Sy will be drinking each of his juices today for you and that we will be praying for a multitude of healing blessings on your household.
Our family is especially thankful that God has chosen to heal Sy through the Gerson Therapy and that it has been another constant reminder of what really matters!
Happy Thanksgiving, y’all.
